Bones @GDC 2025

Bones: Wandering Soul prototype on display at Gamera Games Indie Party

Last week was a huge milestone for Bones: Wandering Soul as we showcased our game internationally for the first time! Our creative director, Amber, had an incredible experience at GDC 2025, where she connected with industry professionals, gained invaluable insights, and helped lay the groundwork for the future of Bones.

The journey began at the Aussie Indie Showcase, hosted by Indie BYOG and supported by IGEA. This was Bones’ first major event, and the response was nothing short of encouraging. Amber had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with publishers, lawyers, funding bodies, and fellow indie developers on an international level amongst 13 other talented Aussie devs selected to showcase. While we know we’re still early in development, this showcase was a powerful step forward, helping us build relationships, expand our network, and receive insightful feedback that will shape Bones moving forward.

As a cherry on top, we were also invited to the Gamera Games Indie Party at the end of the week to further showcase the game!

Beyond the showcase, Amber packed in a whirlwind of learning experiences, attending a variety of talks and discussions designed to help us grow as a studio. From deep dives into gameplay systems and narrative development to publishing strategies and leadership roundtables, the insights gained will be invaluable to our team. A particular highlight was listening to the Harold Halibut team discuss their journey, an inspiring session that resonated deeply after following their development process for so long and being an early influence for Bones.

Additionally, Amber enjoyed engaging in Women in Games mixer events hosted by Microsoft and Unreal Engine, connecting with an inspiring group of women and industry professionals. These events were a fantastic reminder of the power of community and the importance of lifting each other up in this ever-evolving industry. It was also a wonderful experience to attend events like ‘Day of the Devs’ and experience many amazing indie games on display, including a couple of our very own local Australian talent.

The week ended on a high note at the Gamera Games Indie Party, held at a packed nightclub near the Moscone Center. This unique showcase allowed us to test Bones in a completely different environment, among a lively, enthusiastic crowd of developers and industry peers. The energy was electric, and the feedback we gathered was insightful, helping us refine our vision moving forward.

A huge thank you to Screen Australia for funding Amber’s trip as a Future Leader Delegate and to everyone to dropped by our game to say hello and have a playtest. The experience has been transformative for our team, equipping us with the confidence and knowledge to pitch Bones more effectively as we move forward.

This is just the beginning. We’re feeling more inspired than ever and are excited to bring Bones: Wandering Soul to life for all of you. Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come!
